Windows 8 is not getting updates. What are the symptoms, how to understand and resolve?

Select Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle and click Run Now,

Wait a minute,

Select Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle and click Run Now,

Applying new policies may take 15-20 minutes to apply. If the updates do not come up, try the next solution.

Solution 2:

Stop sevices,
1. Run Services.msc
2. Stop Background Intelligent Transfer Service
3. Stop Windows Update Service

Use following command with Administrator rights,

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv

Rename “%windir%\softwaredistribution” directory to “%windir%\softwaredistribution.old” directory
Start services,
1. net start wuauserv
2. net start bits
After seeing that the new folder is created than run following command with Administrator rights,

wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

You should see the updates begin to install after 15 minutes.
